Chapter 2

The One Everyone Knows and The One Nobody Notices.

The second week of college always felt different.

The excitement of the first day slowly disappeared, replaced by assignments, deadlines, and the reality of another busy semester.

For some students, college was a place to prove themselves.

For others, it was a place to survive.

Nila Aravind belonged somewhere in between.

She was not the topper of her class.

She was not the student professors remembered immediately.

She was just an average student trying her best, taking one day at a time.

And honestly…

She was okay with that.

Not everyone had to be the best.

Some people were meant to quietly enjoy the journey.

“Nila…”

A voice beside her interrupted her thoughts.

She looked at Keerthi.

“What?”

Keerthi pointed at the notebook in front of her.

“Are you taking notes or creating a new language?”

Nila looked down.

Her handwriting was messy, and even she struggled to understand what she had written.

She slowly closed the notebook.

“I’ll understand it later.”

Kavya looked at her seriously.

“Nila, you always say that.”

“And one day, I will actually understand it.”

Keerthi laughed.

“That one day has been coming for two years.”

Nila rolled her eyes but smiled.

This was normal for them.

Kavya helped her with notes.

Keerthi teased her.

And Nila somehow survived every semester.

She wasn’t the smartest person in the room.

But she was always the person who made the room feel lighter.

Meanwhile, somewhere else on campus, people were gathered around the basketball court.

The reason was obvious.

Adhavan Rajasekar.

The name everyone knew.

The college topper.

The basketball captain.

The student who seemed to be good at everything he touched.

“Adhavan, the faculty asked for your project report.”

“I’ll submit it before lunch.”

“Your exam preparation?”

“Almost completed.”

“Basketball practice?”

“Starts in ten minutes.”

His schedule was always full.

People admired him.

Some wanted to be like him.

Some wanted to be friends with him.

But very few people actually knew him.

Because Adhavan never allowed the world too close.

He smiled when needed.

He spoke when necessary.

He worked hard because he believed nothing came without effort.

To everyone else, he was the perfect student.

But inside, he was just someone tired of always having to be perfect.

After lunch, Nila walked toward the library with Keerthi and Kavya.

Not because she had completed all her assignments.

She definitely hadn’t.

She just wanted a quiet place to finish some pending work.

“The library?” Keerthi asked.

“Are you feeling okay?”

Nila looked offended.

“I come to the library.”

“For novels, yes.”

“That still counts.”

Kavya laughed.

The three friends entered the library.

Nila loved this place.

It didn’t matter who was popular.

It didn’t matter who had the highest marks.

Inside these walls, everyone was just a person with a book.

She walked between the shelves, searching for a reference book.

At the same time, Adhavan entered the library to collect some materials for his upcoming project.

The librarian smiled at him.

“Adhavan, your usual section?”

He nodded politely.

Everyone knew him.

That was his life.

Everywhere he went, someone recognized him.

As he walked through the shelves, his eyes briefly moved toward a familiar laugh.

Nila.

Not because he knew her.

He didn’t.

He only remembered the girl from yesterday who had smiled with her friends in the corridor.

The girl who seemed completely comfortable being herself.

For a second, he noticed how different she was from everyone around him.

Most people changed when someone important walked by.

She didn’t even seem to notice.

Then someone called his name.

“Adhavan!”

He turned around.

The moment passed.

Outside the library, Nila walked back with her friends, complaining about assignments.

“I swear, why do teachers think we have unlimited time?”

Keerthi nodded seriously.

“Exactly. They think we wake up only to study.”

Kavya smiled.

“You both are impossible.”

Nila laughed.

She didn’t know that somewhere on the same campus, there was a person everyone noticed.

And he didn’t know that somewhere on the same campus, there was a girl who believed nobody noticed her.

Two different worlds.

Two different lives.

But slowly…

They were moving closer.
