Chapter 3

Two Worlds, One Campus

People often believed that being in the same place meant being close.

But that wasn’t always true.

Sometimes, two people could walk through the same gates every morning, breathe the same air, and spend years surrounded by the same walls…

Yet still remain strangers.

That was exactly how it was for Nila Aravind and Adhavan Rajasekar.

They belonged to the same college.

But they belonged to two completely different worlds.

Nila Aravind was a Commerce student.

Her days usually started with rushing to class because she spent too much time choosing which book to carry.

Not textbooks.

Novels.

Her classmates knew her as the girl who always had a book in her bag, the girl who laughed loudly with her friends, and the girl who somehow managed to survive every assignment deadline.

She was not the topper of her department.

She was not the student whose name appeared on every achievement board.

She was just an average student trying to complete her degree while enjoying the little moments of college life.

Her world was simple.

Her classroom.

The library corner she loved.

The canteen conversations.

And two people who made college feel easier.

Keerthi and Kavya.

“Nila, are you coming to the canteen or are you planning to marry that notebook?”

Keerthi stood near the classroom door, waiting.

Nila looked at her notes.

“Give me five minutes.”

“You said that ten minutes ago.”

Kavya smiled while arranging her books.

“Just leave her. She will come after finishing one more line.”

Nila closed her notebook and stood up.

“See? Kavya understands me.”

“No,” Kavya replied calmly.

“I understand your habits.”

The three friends laughed as they walked away.

For Nila, this was enough.

She never needed to be the most popular person on campus.

She had her own small world.

And she was comfortable there.

On the other side of the campus was a completely different life.

Adhavan Rajasekar was an Engineering student.

Unlike Nila, his name was known almost everywhere.

Not because he tried to become famous.

It just happened.

He was the college topper.

The basketball captain.

The student who represented the college in competitions.

His schedule was always filled.

Morning lectures.

Project discussions.

Basketball practice.

College events.

People often stopped him in the corridor.

“Adhavan, can you help with this?”

“Adhavan, the faculty asked for you.”

“Adhavan, when is the next match?”

Everyone knew him.

But very few people actually knew him.

Because behind all the achievements was someone who simply worked hard every day.

He never had time to explore other departments.

He barely visited the Commerce block.

And the students there were just unfamiliar faces passing by.

The Commerce block and Engineering block were on opposite sides of the campus.

Different classrooms.

Different schedules.

Different groups of friends.

Nila spent her free time searching for peaceful places.

Adhavan spent his free time completing responsibilities.

Their paths existed in the same college…

But rarely crossed.

When Nila heard his name, it was only through other students.

“That’s Adhavan Rajasekar. The engineering topper.”

When Adhavan heard about Commerce students, it was usually through college activities or events.

But Nila’s name never reached him.

And why would it?

She was just another student walking through a crowded campus.

A student who never tried to stand out.

One afternoon, during a college event announcement, both departments gathered in the auditorium.

For the first time in months, students from Commerce and Engineering sat in the same place.

Nila sat with Keerthi and Kavya, quietly listening.

A few rows away, Adhavan sat with his teammates.

The crowd cheered when his name was announced.

Nila clapped along with everyone else.

Not because she knew him.

Just because everyone else was doing it.

At the same moment, Adhavan looked across the auditorium.

Hundreds of faces.

Students talking.

Students laughing.

Students cheering.

Nothing caught his attention.

Not yet.

Because sometimes, timing matters.

Two people can be standing in the same room…

And still not meet.

For months, Nila Aravind and Adhavan Rajasekar existed in the same college.

One was a girl who believed staying unnoticed was easier.

One was a boy who was noticed everywhere he went.

One belonged to Commerce.

One belonged to Engineering.

One avoided attention.

One carried the weight of it.

They were not separated by distance.

They were separated by their worlds.

But life had a strange way of bringing people together…

Exactly when they least expected it.
